BACKGROUND

This event is being held to raise funds for local charities: the main chosen charity this year is Green Acres Animal Rescue (https://www.greenacresrescue.org.uk/). Smaller donations will also be given to the Friends of Broad Haven School and 948 Squadron Air Cadets. It is a festive fun run of approximately 10km (as close as we can get it as it is “multi-terrain”) taking place in Broad Haven on SUNDAY 10th December at 09:30am. The cost of entry is £18 for WAA affiliated runners and £20 for non-associated/independent runners. This cost includes a Christmas pudding and a locally-made wooden medal on crossing the finish line.

BEFORE THE RACE

There will be no entries accepted on the day. Please email xmaspuddingrun@hotmail.co.uk for any further details or with any questions. The runners have to be aged over 15 on the day of the run for insurance purposes. For younger runners (from 0-11 years) there will be a children’s “Little Xmas Puds Run” on the beach at 11.00am (weather dependent – entry on the day).

A video of the run briefing will be available on the website www.xmaspuddingrun.co.uk and the Facebook page Broad Haven Xmas Pudding Run the week before the event.

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS

Based on the guidance available from the Welsh Government and the Event Licencing Welsh Athletics, UK Athletics and Run Britain, a series of Covid-19 modifications have been made to the event in 2022, compared with how the event has operated in the past. The following measures are advised for this years’ event

  1. Please do not attend the event if you are unwell or experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 listed here
  2. Please sanitise your hands on entering the registration building and follow any signage/instructions given to you by event volunteers

Please note: We are not using the Ocean Café Bar for registration – we are using the YHA Field Study Centre

PARKING

Please park only in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park car park on the right as you enter Broad Haven on the B4327 from Haverfordwest (signposted YHA) as this is where the YHA Field Study Centre is – where you will be registering. There is also a car park on Marine Road opposite the Galleon Inn. Please do not park on the road along the sea front or on residential roads.

TOILETS

Public toilets are available in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Car Park on Millmoor Way and there are also public toilets on Marine Road opposite the Galleon Inn.

RACE NUMBERS

Your race numbers will be given to you at registration, in your race envelope. Numbers must be worn on the FRONT during the run. They must not be folded and must be pinned in all four corners – please bring your own pins! (we will have some spares). You need to write your name, any medical condition(s) you may have, and an emergency contact number on the back of your race number. Race belts are allowed provided the number is visible to the front and is not folded.

REGISTRATION

Run registration will take place between 07:00 and 09:00 in the YHA field study Centre which is next to the YHA in the main Broad Haven car park. Please note that this is different to the first years of the run as it is a much more convenient space and close to parking– we are NOT using the Ocean Café Bar.

As we are supporting Green Acres Animal Rescue this year, we will be accepting donations of pet food items at registration. These donations are entirely optional as the Pudding Run will be donating money raised from the run entries to Greenacres, but we thought this would be an excellent opportunity to help get together some much needed resources in the lead up to Christmas.

GENERAL

Please note that all main junctions will be marshalled, but please be aware that marshals cannot stop traffic and the race is run on open roads so it is your responsibility to run safely. Anything deemed to be unsafe will be recorded by marshals and offenders will be put in the stocks and force-fed Christmas puddings. Unfortunately, the use of personal stereo equipment/headphones is not allowed for safety reasons. We will endeavour to make sure there is music on loudspeakers at points along the run to help keep spirits high.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

First aid cover will be available during the run, so in the unlikely event that you need medical attention please alert a race official who will act accordingly. If for any reason you decide to pull out of the race (this includes not starting the race after you have registered), you MUST report to an official at the finish, so that this can be recorded and we know that you are safe. Everyone who starts the race must be accounted for, so please avoid the cost and worry of a missing person search by reporting in. If you suffer from any medical condition (e.g. asthma) please write details on the back of your race number. This should help ensure you receive the correct treatment in the event of any emergency.

AFTER THE RUN

On finishing the race, you will be able to pick up your Xmas pudding and medal at the finish line and there will be water bottles available. Please also hand your running number in at the collection point to help with our recycling.

There is a prize for “BEST DRESSED RUNNER” who will be chosen by an impartial panel of experts! The prize for this will be sent out to the winner or given to the runner on the day if we can catch you!

SHOWERS

Please note: this year we are not providing showers after the run.

THE LITTLE XMAS PUDS RUN

The Little Xmas Puds Run will be on the beach at 11.00 – children will receive medals etc. on the beach. The children’s run is weather dependent, so will be confirmed on the day. Registration for this will also be in the field study centre in the YHA car park from 07:00 till 09:30 and then will be available on the beach by the finish line.

The kids Little Xmas Pudding Run will be a square course set out on the beach. Each side will be approximately 100 metres and each age category will have their own race with a different distance to run.

Here are the kids categories:

🎅 3 & under – 100 metres of the home straight  (1 side)

🎅 4 to 5 year olds – 200 metres (2 sides)

🎅 6 to 7 year olds – 300 metres (3 sides)

🎅 8 to 9 year olds – 400 metres (4 sides, a whole loop of the course)

🎅 10 to 11 year olds – 800 metres (2x loops of the course)

🎅 12 and over – 1200 metres (3x loops of the course)

There will be signs on the beach showing you where to start depending on the child’s age and there will be plenty of marshals to ask
